Society or human society is the manner or condition in which the members of a community live together for their mutual benefit. By extension, society denotes the people of a region or country, sometimes even the world, taken as a whole. Used in the sense of an association, a society is a body of individuals outlined by the bounds of functional interdependence, possibly comprising characteristics such as national or cultural identity, social solidarity, language or hierarchical organization. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals sharing a distinctive culture and institutions. Like other communities or groups, a society allows its members to achieve needs or wishes they could not fulfill alone.

A society, however, may be ontologically independent of, and utterly irreducible to, the qualities of constituent individuals; it may act to oppress. The urbanization and rationalization inherent in some, particularly Western capitalist, societies, has been associated with feelings of isolation and social "anomie".

More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied collection of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society. The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. A "society" may even, though more by means of metaphor, refer to a social organism such as an ant colony.

What society has been discovering about you?
Q. We all live in society, the society has to offer many things. At the same time, society evaluates you as a 'thing'. In other words, it finds out what are you are made up of, what you like to take from society, what you can offer etc... as per as the particular society is concerned. Yes, we live in many societies simultaneously and each society may have different opinion/discovery about you.

A. the society hardly discovers anything. it is only individuals who by their word and deed introduce themselves and even market themselves. on social relations, it is the constant interactions that determine acceptability or otherwise. Only parents or guardians take active interest during childhood. to others, a person actively introduces himself. others need no discover anything.

Why is it important for society if gays get married? Why is it important if heterosexuals get married?
Q. Is it beneficial for society as a whole for gays to get married and why? Or is it primarily only beneficial for gays to get married? Is it beneficial for society as a whole for heterosexuals to get married and why? Is it primarily only beneficial for heterosexuals to get married?

A. it isnt important to society if gays marry... although they would have you believe so. this county is a christian country founded on christsian principles and according to most christian beliefs as well as what is plainly written in the Bible, homosexuality is a sin. i more than anyone believe that gov't and religion shouldnt mix but allowing gays the same rights as non gays kinda sets the tone that it is ok to be gay...and well, its not. for a select vocal minority to insist that i go against what i believe God wants just to politically legitimize their alternative lifestyle is unamerican. if you are gay, then be gay...dont get me to agree with it or expect me to pay for your lifestyle thru my taxes or the rise in cost for my insurance or… [cont.]

What effect on society will there be if our magnetic poles flipped?
Q. Throughout Earth's history, the magnetic poles have periodically flipped, i.e. magnetic north goes to the South Pole and magnetic south goes to the North Pole. I read that we will soon be passing through the plane of rotation for the Milky Way, and I hypothesize this might trigger our poles to flip. What kind of effect could this have on our society, considering are increasing reliance on electronic devices?

A. Well, first of all the Earth's magnetism will o to zero before flipping. This will mean complete depletion of the ozone layer, and cosmic rays will pass right through the atmosphere. The moment you step out of the house, you will look like "an overcooked pizza" to quote Bill Bryson. The Earth's magnetism does flip once every 500 million years or so, but there are enough lucky survivors to prevent extinctions.
