A. it takes 2 to 3 days to make new glasses (if your Rx is less than 1 year old) to wear contacts you need to be a responsible person, If you clean your room and take responsibility seriosly then you make be able to take care of contact and your eyes. (usually around 13 or 14 y/o) when wearing contacts you have to worry about neovascularization, corneal ulcers, allergies, infections etc. LASIK??? you need to be an adult and not have had a RX change for at least 2 years

How can glasses change your appearance when you take them off?
Q. I've been wearing glasses for 4-5 years already and I'm near-sighted. When I take them off, I noticed that I have really big bags and dark circles under my eyes that are not visible when I'm wearing my glasses. My eyes also look more dry and different, compare to people who don't wear glasses. Is this because of glasses or something else? Thanks in advance.

A. i have that issue as well (i've been wearing glasses for eight years and when i take them off, i feel like i look totally different). i think it's due to the fact that my glasses are, in fact, covering part of my face; they cover the gap between your eyes, the top of your nose and the sides of your face). i think they probably look 'dry' because the glass might make them look glossy? lol, idk about that one. about the dark circles: the outline of your glasses actually frame your eyes, so that your actual eyes are right in the center, however, when you take them off, there is no frame making the dark circles very, very visible. so, yeah, it's because of your glasses.. :)

How do those glasses that turn into sunglasses in the sun work?
Q. Some people have glasses that turn into shades when they're out in the sun. When they come indoors, it turns back into regular vision glasses. How do those lens work??
Asked by j1 projectz - Sat Aug 16 23:12:58 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Transitions lenses are photochromic lenses. "Photochromic" means the lenses change from clear to dark in the presence of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, such as when exposed to sunlight. Indoors and at night, Transitions lenses are as clear as regular clear lenses. Outdoors, when exposed to the sun's UV rays, they turn sunglass dark, enhancing the quality of vision by reducing glare, thereby minimizing eye strain and fatigue, and improving contrast in all light conditions. And it's all automatic thats from those glasses are called transitions lenses

How do glasses work on a person with perfect vision?
Q. I have very poor eyesight, and I always wonder what the reverse effect is on when people wear my glasses. If they wear my glasses, their vision is extremely blurred.. so is it by chance like letting them walk in my shoes? I am wondering if it's a parallel relationship between the two instances. Whereas the glasses correct my vision to their status, would the glasses be screwing with their vision to bring it down to my own status? to the same degree?
Asked by Brad - Tue Aug 4 18:28:49 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. When people with perfect vision look through your glasses, they are not going to see exactly what you see without your glasses. If you are nearsighted, you will have glasses with concave lenses. If a person with normal vision puts them on, the effect will be similar to as if they were farsighted, their eyes will try to accommodate to bring the image into focus (just as when looking at a close object). If the lenses are not very strong or if the person is fairly young and has a wide range of accommodation, they might actually be able to see through the glasses but things will look smaller, and further away and they might get headaches with continued wearing. Also they might have trouble seeing near objects as they might not have enough… [cont.]

Should a window with water vapour inside its glasses be repaired or replaced?
Q. One window of my 20 yr old house has water condensation inside its two glass pieces. I am thinking of drilling one or two tiny holes on the inside glass piece so that the water vapor can come out. I realise that these holes may reduce the insulation of the window glasses, as window company told me to replace it. But then again, cold air can always come inside my house through my kitchen exhaust vent and chimney?

A. Drilling holes may make the problem worse but if your only other option is to replace the window, give it a shot. I'd drill the holes and then use to heat gun to warm the window and the inner space. Once the moisture has been driven out, I'd seal the tiny holes with epoxy or some other material that I could take off as needed to drive out any more moistute that accumulates. Apparently there are companies that specalize in defogging windows so you may have another option other than replacing the window bg

What is the best way to clean eye glasses with the shine free coating on them?
Q. I have been wearing eye glasses for years and I always need a new pair every year or so. The coating on the glasses gets all scratched to the point where I can barely see out of them. My eye doctor told me it is the chemistry of my body making the coating wear away. I am not really 100 percent in belief with that. Any info would be great. Thank you. Also, is there anything I should keep in my glass case to help with the body chemistry thing?

A. Your body chemistry has nothing to do with your coating getting scratched! The quality of the coating is the main factor and how they are cleaned is important to. Let me explain quality- higher quality coatings have more layers while low quality coatings have only a few. So, if the coating is thin, it tends to wear away faster while lenses with thicker coatings last longer and are more scratch resistant. Of course, the better coating costs more and takes longer to process. And as far as cleaning- always use a lens cleaner that says on the label "Safe for use on anti-reflective coated lenses". Always use a soft cloth ( I prefer the microfiber cloths) to dry them. NEVER use windex (the ammonia in it will cause damage) and don't use any… [cont.]

A. LCD monitors are non reflective. You don't get glare from them. Glare can only happen on the lenses of your glasses if you don't have an anti reflection coating , but if you don't wear glasses to begin with , there is no place for glare to happen. Your fatigue just stems from too many hours in a fixed position , and probably not the best posture which is what causes fatigue. Keeping the monitor at least 28 inches away, with the center just below eye level , and taking very frequent breaks just to look around the room for a few seconds, away from the screen does wonders. Every 45 minutes to an hour, you need to get up and walk around, go look outside, do anything for 5 to 10 minutes. All these fancy computer glasses supposedly to… [cont.]

A. Other than the use of a UV filter (either on the screen or on your specs), there is no "damage preventative" from computer use. To be honest, the damage that is most common is not from the computer itself, but from the surface of the eye getting dry. Typically, when we are concentrating on the computer screen we "forget" to blink at regular intervals resulting in dry eyes. Symptoms of dry eye include burning, blurred vision, and tearing. One of the things that I tell patients is to use the 20/20/20 rule (every 20 minutes stand up from your workspace, look down the hall or across the office at least 20 feet away for no less than 20 seconds). This will help to relax the muscles around the eye (helping with possible headaches) and jump start… [cont.]

A. I saw this on optical4less.com when I was looking for some new glasses they offered a special coating. This is what it said: "Our unique premium anti-radiation coating is new technology that applied to optical glasses . The conductive coatings block 99.9% ELF/VLF E-field radiation from damaging your eyes . Always recommended for users who often face computer and TV screens." They will add it on for another $29. (which was the cost of my glasses so I didnt see the logic.) That is probably what you are looking for. Good Luck!

Good Luck!

How do I clean dishwasher rings on my wine glasses?
Q. My wine glasses are too tall for the dishwasher, so when we wash them we put them on their side. As a result, water pools in the goblet and leaves a dishwater ring on the inside of my glasses. They're just normal hand blown glasses and I'd really like to find a way to make them look new again. Any advice?

A. Just soak them in white vinegar. Then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Incidently you can use white vinegar in place of jet dry in your dishwasher. It is less harmful to the environment and does the same job at an 8th of the price. I learned this years ago from a book called Hints from Helouise

How do I keep my reading glasses clean?
Q. I need to wear reading glasses for a lot of the day to work on the computer, but I'm having to take them off and clean smudges from the lenses several times a day. Is there a way to stop them smudging? Is it because I bought cheap plastic glasses from Wal-Mart and would buying better quality ones be easier to look after for me?

A. Reading glasses get smudged no matter of their price or quality. By carefully placing fingers on the arms while putting them on or removing them, it may help keep them cleaner. Unovoidable is the oils of the skin, that will create some smudges while they are worn. There are solution at the Optomstrists office, for cleaning, and treated cloths to wipe them down. I have found the best way of cleaning them is by washing them with some liquid dish soap and drying them with a soft lint free dish towel, in that way the glasses get claned as well as the frame and the arms.

How can you get rid of glasses without laser eye treatment or contacts?
Q. I have been wearing glases nearly all my life now because I have extreemely bad eyesight. Everything without glasses a very blurry and to me, my glasses are mylife because without them I really struggle to see. Does anyone know of any exercises that will help me be able to see better? Thanks!

A. hmm well you can try these but bear in mind that you will probably still have bad eyesight even with doing these.. Nevertheless: -A simple exercise is to look at a point close by (1-3 metres away) for 10 seconds then (while staying absolutely still), shift your gaze to a point farther away (5-10 metres away) -There are supposed to be some yoga exercises for better eyesight so you can google "eyesight yoga" to find more exercises but here's a couple: <<==This one has a lot of great ones btw! Apart from exercises, make sure you do the following: -Drink LOTS of carrot juice/eat carrots or foods containing carrots -Try to minimize how much you use things that have screens or atleast not have your eyes too close to them(computer screens,… [cont.]
