How do the GOP and Democratic national conventions decide their nominee?
Q. How does a candidate with less delegates get nominated? For example, how would Ron Paul or Hillary Clinton get nominated at their conventions despite going in as delegate-underdogs? I have heard that Abraham Lincoln went into the GOP convention with only 10% of the delegates and came out a winner.

A. Delegates can vote how they choose most of teh time. They ussualy will not vote for someone if it will pi9ss off the masses tho. But lets say something happens and everyone in the country that is a republican said "wow, I really like Ron Paul better" Then it would be the best thing for the republicans to not nominate McCain. Same with Hillary at the DNC.

What are some challenging conventions in Education?
Q. I have to do a research paper on challenging conventions in the field of education. I know that there are many topics to contend with so I figured I would ask "the People" what they (you) feel are the important challenging conventions. My paper should focus on how and/or why educators should change the way they do things. I'm just looking for suggestions since the topics are so broad and there' a million things I could write on. A. I think you mean, "What are the important conventions to be challenged," meaning "What are the things educators usually do that should be questioned?" The No Child Left Behind Act was not something done by educators, it was done by the government. I do not think that is what you are looking for. More likely, you would be looking at conventions like these: - Tracked classes - Teacher-centered lessons - Teaching "classic" literature without incorporating minority or women authors - "Teaching to the test" (teaching to standardized tests) - Using standardized tests to determine student ability/rank/placement

What are the typical conventions of 'battle music'?
Q. I have to write a piece called 'the night before the battle' and wondered what are the typical conventions of a piece like this? I know loud crescendos are one, but that's about it. Help please? :)

A. lots of percussion and brass. that creates a lot of drama. percussion beat should be steady - ostinato would be a good thing to go with here. you can experiment with dynamics too. but since you got "the night BEFORE the battle"... a good solo would do the trick - try with cello. include percussion too but go easy on the loudness. try to think how you would feel before the battle. part of you is probably thinking of all that's dear to you and all that you could lose within hours. the other part is really aggressive and wants blood. good luck!
