The word geek is a slang term, noting individuals as "a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc." Formerly, the term referred to a carnival performer often billed as a wild man whose act usually includes biting the head off a live chicken, bat, snake or bugs. The 1976 edition of the American Heritage Dictionary included only the definition regarding geek shows. This word comes from English dialect geek, geck: fool, freak; from Low German geck, from Middle Low German. The root geck still survives in Dutch gek: crazy, and in the Alsatian word Gickeleshut: geek's hat, used in carnivals. From Wikipedia under the

You're preparing to invest into a business but have not done solid due diligence on the business, people behind it or the laws that will protect you in case it is a scam. There are so many red flags popping up in my head right now, I wouldn't know where to start! My advice is slow down. Take a month or two to investigate further and check into these people thoroughly. Talk to successful stores and see about their experiences. Talk to others that are not successful and find out why. Is it a company problem? Is that franchise owner just a bad business manager? Now read all the questions on Yahoo asking "Did I get ripped off by these people because I sent all this money and blah blah blah?" Or you could just call and ask them what the starting wage is.
